I don’t usually go to anime conventions due to lack of time (which comes with having a job) and money (which you would think you’d have more of after having a job), but this year, I went to A-Kon in Dallas, TX.
It’s my second time there, the first being two years ago, and I only have one word to sum it up.
HOT.
Oh geez, I don’t remember the one two years ago being that hot and muggy to the point that water had no effect. Maybe I just lost my resistance, maybe my clothes were too heavy, but I nearly fainted a couple of times.
Anyway, it’s a fairly small convention compared to Fanime, Otakon, Anime Boston, and such, but the crowd was fairly lively as usual. I came to the con for three reasons: to meet up with friends from college, to see what they had in the dealers’ room, and to take some pictures. No, I was not in cosplay nor do I forsee myself ever going in one mainly because my personal standards are too high for making a costume workable. If you’ve seen my edits for the scanlations, you know what I’m talking about. Maybe if I finally find time to learn how to sew and focus on only that, I will do something. Preferably something that hides my face like Thanatos or Izanagi.
Anyway, nothing much of note about the con. In general, it was laid back with really nothing worth talking about except the cosplay showing and some concerts that I didn’t see because I was too tired by the time they rolled around. There were some good coplays there such as Travis from No More Heroes and Jet from Cowboy Bebop. There were also a few good BlazBlue ones and really nice Noel. As for Touhou, I wasn’t expecting any except cookie’s genderbent Reimu, but there were others such as a Mokou, Man-Ling (no picture taken), Yukari and Rinnosuke, and I could’ve sworn I saw one more.
As for loot, I wasn’t really planning on buying anything, but thanks to Hendane (I think it was them), I nearly completed by Advent Cirno doujin collection (lacking Break Time) and got 30 parts 1 and 2. Why do I buy these things when I can’t even read them? Why do people buy Gundam models and anime figures? Same reason. I just like to think I’m cheaper this way also.
Pictures here. Rollover for personal comments. Also, I must make a disclaimer for any discoloration in the pictures. My camera isn’t that great, so things may be not what they should be.
There are too many pictures to post, so go check them out at the link below:

I’m planning to go to Anime Boston next year mainly for the Touhou panel (I hope?) and to meet up with some people from the community. We’ll see if I can make it.

Barring unforeseen disastrous circumstances, I fully expect us to do the Touhou Panel again next year at AB.
